PhD Interactive 2nd Birthday & Final Furlong Party
A few photos from the "company do" at the
NDX Karaoke and Noodle bar on May 22nd to celebrate PhD Interactive surviving 2 years and notching up its 300th subscriber. The next milestone (550 customers) is pretty big as it will probably involve relocation to the Lake District (an upgrade on the previous "reward" of a TVR), and hence the explanation for
the final furlong.
By way of bonus material for website visitors, here's the speech I had in my back pocket, but fortunately didn't have to deliver. The sentiments still hold true.
"...blah..blah..short speech .. blah. blah. , thanks everyone..but I'd like to thank a few people in particular who've really gone out of their way to help me over the last two years. Firstly is Lauren, who is a superb designer/copywriter and has produced some great advertising for me. A year ago I'd given up on advertising after a very feeble attempt of my own. Then Lauren showed how it was meant to be done and now the adverts are fantastic - we would not be here today with you. Secondly I'd like to thank everyone who's endured and even encouraged me to drone on about my grand visions and marketing ideas - especially Simon & Chris, who more than any one have perfected the art of clipping back their eyelids to create a very persuasive sense of interest and attentiveness. Finally, I'd like to thank everyone who's come along tonight and been great sports, especially after yesterday's last minute email revealing the karaoke agenda. Feign surprise.... Of course I made that last bit up."There is an extra bit to the web-speech, because the business would never have even started without Dave Mulligan
(couldn't make it over from the US). He got me started with all the software and technical support I needed, and has always been there to help me out with server problems and any complicated coding. That automated Google checker is awesome Dave! And I can't forget the business to which I outsource all search engine optimisation, website customisation and as much customer service as possible - Puma Business Services i.e. my mum!
(I knew what the party would degenerate into) She also runs
BrmmBrmm.com which is where it all began.
The party's obviously just getting started
Neil and Sam still don't know what they're in for.
But it wasn't long before..
Phil took to the mike, inspired by the other Neil. I thought I was making a good impression, but I think it left Andrea a little off colour.
I was clearly tripping the light fandango...
but the crowd called out for more...
Come on Sam !!! We know you've got photos too, and if you send them to me you'll have a chance to get your own back !
But after Hey Jude, it was clearly downhill
all the way.
Neil developed a very acute case of tinnitus
but got no sympathy from Sam.
Andrew suffered an appalling cerebral edema..
and Catherine braced herself for a messy ending.
And poor Matt was rather worried about the long term effect on his classically trained ears
But that didn't last long
One down !
In fact I think he was even a bit put out when Chris snatched the
microphone, driven by a sudden urge to perform.
"If that ***!!###* wants to perform"...
were, I believe, the words used by Matt just before he slipped a viagra overdose into Chris's beer.
Poor Lisa and Terri were oblivious to Chris's true predicament
Meanwhile the party was in full swing, GirlZone were
were taking centre stage, but Clare and Simon weren't going to let Queen's "we are the champions" go by without a contribution.

Nobody was game to trust Moira with the microphone
but that didn't stop her melting our hearts with the sweet sound of "Danny Boy"
And then before we knew it, we were in New York
and Phil stood in for Frankie who happened to be out of town.
No idea how the conga got started, but the restaurant thought
they were in luck and could make an early night of it
